RHOTACISATION: This is the production of an English phoneme with an /r/ quality. This is commonly found in American English. For example, the word bird would be pronounced as ‘birrd’. However, British English does not pronounce ‘r’after a vowel except when it is followed by another vowel. For example, ‘r’ is not pronounced in ‘car pool’, but it’s pronounced in ‘car engine’.
